## Canonical thesis
A house survives its founder only if the organization can distinguish what must continue, what may evolve, who may decide, which obligations remain, and what evidence authorizes each answer.

## Complete editorial sequence
House of Worth offers an unusually legible object-record sequence. The Met identifies an 1882 evening dress with Charles Frederick Worth, a 1895–1900 ball gown attributed to both Charles Frederick and Jean-Philippe Worth, and another 1898–1900 dress under the House of Worth name after Charles’s death. The records demonstrate continued house attribution and careful designer attribution; they do not prove an unbroken method, governance structure, or ownership chain.

That distinction is the center of succession. Public continuity is a claim made through names, objects, collections, stores, archives, and stories. Institutional continuity requires separate evidence for corporate authority, IP, contracts, staff knowledge, production, creditors and customers, archive custody, access, and public interpretation.

### 01 · STABILIZE — What cannot wait?
Secure people, payroll, orders, client commitments, facilities, insurance, accounts, credentials, physical objects, master files, and communications. Do not make permanent symbolic decisions inside the first emergency response.

Evidence: PROPOSAL · S08, S66

### 02 · LOCATE — Where does authority reside?
Map board and officer authority, ownership, employment, IP, licenses, estate or probate instruments, archive agreements, and operational delegations by jurisdiction and record.

Evidence: PROPOSAL · S63, S64

### 03 · INTERPRET — What should continue—and why?
Separate non-negotiable values, teachable method, recurring codes, historical accidents, commercial habits, and motifs. Preserve the decision logic, not a taxidermy of the last collection.

Evidence: INFERENCE · S68, S69, S71

### 04 · ACCOUNT — Who may test the next chapter?
Define successor scope, review bodies, worker and collaborator credit, community consultation, archive citation, performance measures, correction, and removal or renewal.

Evidence: PROPOSAL · S65

## Counterargument
Continuation is not always the ethical or artistically honest outcome. Closing a company, preserving an archive, paying obligations, and allowing the work to become history may protect a legacy better than indefinite commercial imitation.

## Reader fieldwork
1. Run a 72-hour founder-absence simulation across people, money, orders, facilities, accounts, rights, archive, and public communication.
2. Attach the governing record and backup decision-maker to every critical action.
3. Sort house codes into values, methods, motifs, habits, and unresolved contradictions.
4. Prepare continue, pause, license, sell, donate, and close scenarios with qualified counsel, tax, employment, conservation, and cultural advisers.

## External production dependencies
Recorded performance, bespoke RN photography, participant releases, and counsel or specialist review are separate human-led productions. The editorial edition does not present them as finished recordings, permissions, or professional opinions.
